Wedding Inspiration {Pink & Yellow}

We looked at pink and yellow interiors yesterday, and today, we're looking at this cheerful and feminine palette translated into an oh-so-perfect for spring wedding (while welcoming back the long absent inspiration board!)

Birthday Scrapping and Trying a New Product

I had fun in my scraproom today.  In addition to working on a "to be revealed later" project, I also did some scrapping of the Birthday photos.  I used a new (to me) product on the scrap pages, Fabric Paper by Dear Lizzie and American Crafts.  It is fabric that is backed with an ultra-thin adhesive foam. The fabric paper cuts nicely with my paper trimmer, though I did not try it on the Cricut today.  Don't worry, I have more of the fabric paper and that will be my next experiment.

I purchased my fabric paper at Taylored Expressions.  I used two sheets of the 12 x 12 inch fabric paper, removing the middle section with the trimmer (and saving it for later - I am thinking cute cards!).  I also purchased a package of the 6 x 6 inch fabric paper and plan to use it on some cards.

I used Base Camp and Storybook cartridges to complete my layout.  I cut the phrase Happy 50th Birthday with Base Camp and attached the letters to the flag banner at the top of the fabric paper. I then cut a two layer tag using Storybook where I matted the computer printed journaling.  My friend Kathy gives me grief for not journaling often enough so I am working to mend my ways!

I cut an extra tag set and affixed it under the edge of one of the HUGE-I-FIED Prima flowers.  The other Prima flower is on the left page, afloat on a field of flowers.  I used three lazer cut pink flowers from my stash of long ago purchased die cuts.  Between die cuts and alphabets that I no longer purchase, I should be saving money... Well, except for those new cartridges!!

I have to say that I quite like the Dear Lizzy Fabric Paper and look forward to using more.  I am not sure where else you can purchase the fabric paper, but I plan to "google" it and find out if there are other patterns.

Dish With Trish

Flood Watch:

It's so weird how things happen sometimes...I am having my hardwood floors refinished at my house which is very exciting. We recently decided that we had to have the ceilings done because they were all peeling and then we thought maybe we should paint the walls too and then it became obvious that while we had already cleared all the furniture we should just go ahead and do the floors too. Awesome.

So while they do the floors and then they dry we had to be out of the house for the week. We went to stay for the week at the Marriott in Warwick near the airport, glamorous -no, functional -yes! Meanwhile the rain continued all day yesterday and things were flooding like crazy.

We looked out the hotel window last night and realized that they had closed the road to the airport and route 95! it was so quiet! and actually really creepy. My husband referenced the book The World Without Us and some Armageddon type things, not comforting.

When we woke up this morning we realized that 95 was still closed going both ways and that all of the traffic traveling south was being diverted right through where we were staying and that it was going to take forever to get up to Providence and that getting back to the hotel in the evening was going to be near impossible...turns out that we were basically staying in the hardest hit area, so now we are booked at the Hampton Inn far from the major flooding! But I know that there are so many people who have had to evacuate their homes and have lost so much, so I feel very fortunate that I only had this crazy story to tell...

This is the view from the parking lot right outside our room, well maybe it is a little glamorous...This is what they call the airport connector, this road goes to and from the airport and exits off route 95! You can see a little bit of the guard rail sticking out, this is on the side of the road, there is another set of guard rails in the center of the road too and they are completely under water! I wonder how long this will take to drain out???

A reporter said on the news last night "history is happening now" which I thought was hysterical and I will say it as much as possible from now on. But it inspired me to make this little vintage panorama to depict the 'history' of the flood of 2010, worse than any other flood in over 100 years, maybe more.

This is another view from the other side of the hotel that shows route 95 totally under water as well. Both north and south lanes travel under the little bridge shown here. In front of the geese is an on ramp and beyond them in the 95 south lanes, then you see the jersey barrier and the north lanes are under the sign. Nuts!!!

(BTW photos are from my point and shoot camera, and this is exactly the reason I always have a little camera in my purse, you never know! now I don't have to wish I got a shot of the highway that time it was flooded and I was there to see it...)

Strawberry Chocolate Chip Muffins

Strawberry Chocolate Chip Muffins Recipe- Vegan and Gluten-Free
Gluten-free muffins with strawberries and chocolate chips.

The moon rose almost full last night, hanging gold and low above the palm and ficus trees, urging the local beauty factor to give up its pretense of reality and meld with dreamland. The sky was a deep shade of violet with a wash of strawberry pink at the ocean's edge. Santa Monica continues to hold me in her sway. I am in love with her- and deeply grateful to be here, celebrating my first spring in California since the late seventies. I drink the friendly March sea air in gulps. I wander the alleys and sidewalks in a state bordering on bliss, photographing details and eye candy with my iPhone. It is a visual feast.

And I am savoring every bite.

Easter Cards - Two From One

Have you been by Custom Crops yet this week to check out this week's new articles and projects?  There is a whole lot of Easter going on at CC!  And of course I contributed to the Easter Fest.  Using Cricut Design Studio I designed one cut file that creates two great cards!  The first card is my sad, sad attempt at humor and the second offers the opportunity for Easter stamping.

The first card features two chocolate bunnies in conversation.  Sadly the bunny on the right cannot hear as well as he used to.... Someone bit off his ear!!   This silly card sports several techniques:  the front is framed in a welded border frame, the bunnies are elevated using pop dots, and the voice balloons use the mini gel pen adaptor in the Cricut to write the words, then finally the balloons were cut after replacing the Cricut's housing blade.

The inside of the card has a large balloon with the Happy Easter phrase and a background of printed paper also cut with the Cricut.

The second card had a scalloped background, two chocolate bunnies and is trimmed with a ribbon and bow.  The inside of the card is blank so that you can customize the card according to your preference.  I used this cute Easter stamp set and pink Stampin' Up ink.

You will find the cut file and complete instructions for these cards at Custom Crops.  Follow the blinkie on the upper left side of my blog to go directly to my page at Custom Crops.

If you have not already done so, please leave a comment under the previous post, BBTB2, so that you can be including in the drawing for a $20.00 certificate from SCRAP YOUR TRIP!!

I have no idea what to call this, but I like it . . . Works For Me Wednesday

I'm thinking of just re-titling this..."Longest Blog Post Title in History."

Anyhoo...I wanted to show you guys this handy-dandy measuring cup that works for me.

{Photo Credit: pamperedchef.com}

Why? Fill one end and it's perfect for liquids. Flip it and the other side is perfect for measuring solid, semi-solid and sticky stuff.

You know that stuff that is hard to measure....shortening, peanut butter, honey. Just fill it to the amount you need and just push it right out. Voila!

See...

Mine is from Pampered Chef...no, I don't sell PC, but I have seen them other places. Sur La Table carries a mini version! I still really don't know what to call it. A flip-able, measuring cup pusher-outer thingy. There...that's it.

{On a side note, any recipe that has both butter AND Crisco is good in my book. I'll share this with you later.}

Go on and check out the other Works For Me Wednesday tips at We Are THAT Family.

You can find Bake at 350's WFMW archives here. Next week's edition is "greatest hits."

Pink & Yellow: At Home

I would say I'm not all that into girlie colors, pinks, pastels, and the like, but then I wouldn't be telling the truth. While I haven't used such shades in any rooms of mine in a very long time nor have I felt compelled to do so, there is a part of me that still has a soft spot for feminine color schemes.

Perhaps it is the arrival of spring or because Easter is right around the corner, but for some reason, I am finding myself feeling cheered by the combination of pink and yellow; the rooms below mix these colors to just the right degree.

It's raining...Babies!

Well, to complete my baby trifecta, I headed into the hospital again this past Saturday to photograph the new and fabulous Rachael Emma!!! Isn't she perfect?! She's going to have to get used to her auntie Trish snapping a lot.
I love her expression in this photo below, it's actually amazing how many different expressions a new baby makes. Thank goodness because they don't really have much of a variety in posing.

Did I mention that she is the cousin of Carter who debut on the blog last week?!

The nurse came in to tend to mom and we took the baby with us to the hallway...she looks kind of lonely here, but rest assured she has a huge family to love her!

This pose is classic.

I think this might be my favorite.

Someday she will laugh about this 'old timey' iPhone.

She has fabulous hair too!

She's looking like the other cousins here...strong genes!

Uncle Stephen comforting his new niece...since he's been a Dad for a week now he's a pro!

The whole package, so sweet!
